Giovanni’s Story

Roots

Giovanni Chavez is the son of Mexican immigrants. Although his parents struggled financially, they worked hard to provide a better life for him and his siblings. They instilled in him the values of hard work, respect, human decency, and giving back to your community.

Giovanni’s life experiences motivated him to become a lawyer, where he fights for everyday working families and gives back to his community.

Fighting for working families

Giovanni attended public schools growing up. He pursued the American dream by attending the University of California, Irvine for his bachelor’s degree, and subsequently attended Loyola Law School, Los Angeles to obtain his law degree.

After passing the bar exam, Giovanni dedicated his legal career to fighting for everyday working families. He represents employees being targeted by wage theft, union members seeking better working conditions, tenants facing evictions, and victims injured by life-threatening accidents.

In the community

As an organizer, Giovanni has worked with union, clergy, and community members to deliver better wages and working conditions for working families. As a Santa Ana Rental Housing Board Commissioner, Giovanni directly works to enforce the city’s Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Eviction Ordinance.

Serving as President of the California Young Democrats, he supported living wages for frontline workers, took a stance against the ICE attacks on our community, advocated for a city budget that puts residents first, and fought for affordable housing.

Giovanni knows our city faces many challenges, but he knows that we can only face those challenges together. He believes in a Santa Ana that is safe, affordable, and accessible to all.
